About Blueprint Schools Network

Founded in 2010, Blueprint Schools Network is a national nonprofit dedicated to advancing educational equity and improving student outcomes. Blueprint partners with states, districts, and schools to design and implement evidence-based school improvement initiatives. The Blueprint Math Fellows Program — a cornerstone of this work — accelerates student math achievement through data-driven, small-group tutoring tailored to individual learning needs.

Blueprint currently partners with public school districts and charter networks in Oakland, CA; Phoenix, Yuma, Apache Junction, and Miami, AZ; Saint Louis, MO; East St. Louis, IL; and Washington, DC.

The Opportunity

Blueprint is seeking an experienced Math Instructional Coach & Planning Consultant to support the professional growth of Math Fellows across our program locations. This remote role focuses on observation, coaching, and lesson planning for Fellows in the Copper Corridor and Yuma areas of Arizona.

This role is ideal for experienced math educators or coaches who thrive in structured instructional systems and are energized by supporting early-career educators. The ideal candidate is driven by the belief that every student — regardless of location — deserves access to high-quality math instruction.

Key Responsibilities

1. Remote Observation & Coaching

  • Conduct weekly remote observations of Fellows during small-group tutorials, assessing implementation of Blueprint's core instructional strategies (e.g., Number Talks, "What to Do" directions, relationship-building practices).
  • Facilitate remote debrief and planning sessions via Google Meet to review data, troubleshoot challenges, and set instructional goals.
  • Coach Fellows to prioritize conceptual understanding over rote memorization, with an emphasis on visual models and the logic behind the math.
  • Support Fellows in analyzing exit ticket data to identify learning trends and close gaps between what was taught and what students actually learned.
  • Develop "post-work tools" — resources that replicate coaching conversations — to provide Fellows with reflective support for lessons not covered in live meetings.
  • Use the Blueprint Data Tracker and tools such as STAR Data to monitor instructional trends and target coaching interventions.
  • Coordinate with the Blueprint Program Team to align coaching priorities with school-specific goals and Fellow responsibilities.

2. Math Instructional Planning

Fellows use Blueprint-provided curricula and planning templates. The consultant guides Fellows through a structured 3-Tier Planning Funnel, building the content confidence and pedagogical skills needed to lead successful lessons — even for Fellows without an extensive math background.

All three tiers are supported remotely. Tiers 1 and 2 are facilitated during weekly 45-minute synchronous meetings; Tier 3 is addressed during individual coaching cycles and Fellows' independent planning time.

Tier 1 — Unit Rollouts (Big Picture & Content Mastery) Facilitate "Big Picture" meetings prior to each new unit. Guide Fellows through reviewing priority standards, completing post-assessments to surface prerequisite skills, and anticipating common student misconceptions. A key goal of this tier is building Fellows' own content confidence; the consultant proactively bridges gaps in Fellows' mathematical understanding.

Tier 2 — Weekly Collaborative Lesson Planning (CLP) Lead weekly 45-minute synchronous planning sessions focused on upcoming lessons. Coach Fellows in backwards design from exit tickets, defining what student mastery looks like before planning instruction. Support effective lesson design across the Launch, Engage, and Summary components.

Tier 3 — Individual Internalization & Differentiation Support Fellows as they adapt provided materials for their specific student groups. Provide feedback on scaffolds for struggling learners and meaningful extensions for students ready for greater challenge, ensuring lessons are accessible to all.

3. Data Analysis & Progress Monitoring

  • Support Fellows in analyzing student performance data, including exit tickets, formative assessments, and STAR data.
  • Identify instructional trends and recommend targeted interventions and adjustments.
  • Use Blueprint's data tracking systems to monitor Fellow and student progress over time.

4. Group Professional Development (As Requested)

Facilitate virtual professional development sessions for cohorts of Fellows, focusing on math content knowledge and high-leverage instructional strategies.

5. Program Collaboration

  • Serve as a key member of the wrap-around support team for Fellows, working closely with the Math Fellows Program Director, Program Manager, Coaching & Lesson Planning Consultant(s), and Program Operations Coordinator(s).
  • Ensure that lesson planning, observations, and feedback loops form a seamless experience for each Fellow.
  • Share insights with the Program Team to support ongoing program improvement and innovation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Education or Mathematics preferred
  • 3+ years of successful math classroom teaching experience
  • Proven experience in instructional coaching, with a track record of providing constructive, evidence-based feedback
  • Experience working in or familiarity with rural or remote educational settings preferred
  • Experience supporting novice or early-career educators preferred
  • Expert proficiency in Google Workspace (Meet, Classroom, Docs, Sheets)
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills; ability to build trust with Fellows and school partners quickly
  • May be requested to travel on-site once during initial training or at the start of the program year

Terms of Service

  • Engagement: Independent contractor
  • Schedule: Remote; aligned with Arizona school day (MST)
  • Compliance: Must clear Blueprint and district-specific background screenings and obtain required professional liability insurance
  • Onboarding: Training provided by the Blueprint Program Team, including shadowing of observations and coaching cycles
